Doodles of Madison County Health Policies

As a nurse and dog lover, the health and wellness of our puppies is top priority. We have set up our health policies based on best practice for the pet breeding industry.  Our pets are raised in our home, and socialized with our family to ensure the best possible physical and psycho-social health of your family pet.

One thing we love about doodles is the outstanding health they offer.  So often with pedigreed pure lines, they have outstanding traits, but their health is often compromised by common inbreeding along with inherent weaknesses that are reinforced with the genetic similarities.  Not so with a precious doodle!  Here, we are able to blend the genetic strengths of multiple breeds. This leads to better longevity, less genetic defect and overall general health!

Birthing process:  Your pet will be birthed in a whelping bed in our home.  A family member will be present to comfort Mama and care for your fur baby the moment they enter the world.

To protect the health of all the puppies, visitors are not allowed into the nursery.  Parvo and other illnesses can easily be carried to young puppies on shoes and clothing.  We will gladly post pictures and videos online that show markings and personality for our forever families to select the future family member they will love while protecting the health and wellness of everyone’s new family members.

To ensure the best start, our mother dog is already eating Diamond Naturals Puppy Food.  We feed our pregnant and nursing mother this blend to ensure the correct nutrition from the very beginning of development.  As the puppies transition from mother’s milk to solids this is the food that they will be eating for high quality nutrition!

We will assess the development and growth of the puppies.  Beginning at week 2 or 3 as development allows, they will receive a dose of Panacur (deworming)  If the puppy could receive the first dose on week 2 they will receive follow up doses on week 4 and 6.  If they need one more week to mature, they will receive follow up doses on week 5 and 7.

On week 6  they will receive  their DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, and parainfluenza) vaccine.   I am frequently asked if they will have their rabies shot at this time. It will not be safe for your puppy to receive a rabies shot until he/she is 14 weeks of age.  So your family vet will have to administer that after they have settled into their forever home.  You will receive a vaccine schedule when you pick up your fur baby!

On week 7 your fur baby will be health checked by our family vet.  Our vet will do a full exam to ensure that your new family member is without congenital or hereditary defects. We want to know that we are sending you home with a healthy, thriving puppy!

Health Guarantee:

We do offer a one year health guarantee that guards against genetic diseases. Our puppies will be vet checked and are guaranteed to be in good health at the time they are placed.  For the Health Guarantee to remain valid, you are required to have the puppy health checked by your family vet within 48 hours of departure from our home.  This ensures that you have received a healthy puppy as assessed by two health professionals. If the vet finds any health problems, then the puppy may be returned for a full refund. It also gives us the peace of mind of knowing that our precious little one has had professional care established for follow up appointments. It is a perfect time to set up your little ones future appointments.  By week 12-14 they are due for their second set of vaccinations.

Refund policy until 1 year of age: Your pup is guaranteed free of birth (congenital) defects and hereditary defects for one year after the date of purchase. If your pup is diagnosed with any congenital or hereditary defects, you may:

  1. Return the pup and pick another of your choice from the next litter at no additional cost (except shipping, which is always at the buyer’s expense).
  2. If the pup must be euthanized for the reasons stated above, we will replace it with the next available litter or refund your purchase price. A written statement from your veterinarian must be received within 10 days; we reserve the right to have our veterinarian examine the pup.

Note: If the Receiving Vet Health Check has not happened within 48 hours of puppy pick up, the Health Guarantee is null and void.
